I presume by now you've heard my idea and are thinking what am I on about. Trust me, if you have concerns about it then I have not only the same ones but a 100 more.
My concerns can be broken down into two categories: practical and creative
Firstly the practicality of this idea has its flaws.
-where are you going to film these episodes
-how are you going to film them
-how is this going to make you money
-how will you find time with two kids
-where are you gonna get the items for tech reviews
-how are you gonna pay for the equipment
-are you going to do the dishes on top of all this filming
Secondly the creative, or lack there of.
-Do you know how to edit
-are you going go do your own colour grading and intro work
-how are you gonna monetise it
-how do you get people to watch it
-why don’t you pick a niche instead of so many different episodes
-how do you stand out compared to everyone else on the internet
-shouldn’t you go to film school first
All of these concerns and so many more are so easy to fall back on as an excuse as to why I haven’t done anything yet. It’s very easy to wake up on a day off and just hit snooze. Let the kids moving around wake you and then spend the day watching Paw Patrol and Blaze and The Monster Machines.
When faced with the physical block of being tired and the mental block of all the excuses its very easy to say “you know what, today i’m tired, i need a day”. However, in 5 years time what are the kids going to think about more, having their own play room for all their toys where they can make as much mess as they want, or those days that we spent watching TV because Dad was tired. It’s these thoughts that make me want to make the change, a change that pushes against all the excuses and gets me to what I want. To get the freedom to spend a day bringing my kids on an adventure across the country without worry about a work schedule because I can make my own and am in control of it.
